Our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lp.eptura.com\/content-eptura-workplace-index-Q2.html?_gl=1*20tbqp*_ga*MTIxNzAyMDcwNC4xNjY0OTc5NDg1*_ga_ZWXVG3W4KC*MTY5MTUzMTM0MC4yODMuMC4xNjkxNTMxMzQwLjYwLjAuMA..\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">latest research<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> combines survey feedback on employee preferences and behaviors with an analysis of building use \u2014 and its impact on asset maintenance. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/eptura.com\/our-platform\/eptura-workplace\/\">Workplace<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/eptura.com\/our-platform\/eptura-asset\/\">asset<\/a> data trends in context<\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Meeting room and desk bookings climbed \u2013 as corrective maintenance expanded past established industry ratios, per our analysis of 8,000+ companies with 2.7 million desks, 440,000 floors, and 37,000 buildings. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">There was a 20% increase in maintenance work orders from Q2 2022 to Q2 2023. At a time when <a href=\"https:\/\/eptura.com\/our-platform\/facility-management-software\/\">facility management<\/a> budgets are scaled down, demand for planned and corrective maintenance and systems upkeep continued to grow.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The challenge? Being able to give <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/eptura.com\/our-platform\/preventive-maintenance-software\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">preventive maintenance<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> the full attention it needs when on-demand and corrective work orders dominate the facility and maintenance teams\u2019 time. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">At the same time, employees rank <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">socializing and collaborating<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> with co-workers as the top two reasons for visiting the office, per our survey of 6,700 employees. But you\u2019ll never guess what ranked third: <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Establishing a boundary between work and home<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Flexibility isn\u2019t a cover for remote working only. It doesn\u2019t mean never coming into a workplace or not having autonomy at work (wherever it is each day). It means there is a recognized human <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">need for physical separation between home and work<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lp.eptura.com\/content-eptura-workplace-index-Q2.html?_gl=1*20tbqp*_ga*MTIxNzAyMDcwNC4xNjY0OTc5NDg1*_ga_ZWXVG3W4KC*MTY5MTUzMTM0MC4yODMuMC4xNjkxNTMxMzQwLjYwLjAuMA..\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">According to our study<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, having a workplace to go to can help reinforce community purpose, improve 1-on-1 in-person communication and collaboration with managers, boost career progression and mentoring.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Survey respondents also expressed a need for <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">having access to equipment<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a better working environment<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> as important motivating levers for visiting the workplace \u2013 whether an office, a commuting hub, co-working space, hospital, college campus, manufacturing plant, et al. How can you optimize workspaces to attract people to the workplace while simultaneously managing the bottom line? <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Monthly equipment inspections are up month-over-month with more people in the workplace. As daily maintenance \u2018work orders closed\u2019 peak at the start of the week, daily inspections peak in the middle of the week. The value of the office is driven by connection. Nearly half of those surveyed (47%) say they like to be near their team when in the office. Proximity to colleagues has value beyond what employees feel they can achieve virtually.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Having friends at work is an important lever for success \u2013 not just for company culture, but for everything from employee retention to sense of fulfillment. If socializing helps employees feel engaged and connected at work, there is a benefit. Gallup research <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/471752\/announcing-2023-gallup-exceptional-workplace-award-winners.aspx\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">tracks the top workplaces<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> as measured by employee engagement. The top companies have 18 engaged employees for every one actively disengaged employee.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Collaborating is a close second for individual contributors<\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Younger generations tend to collaborate more frequently than older generations, but the collaboration is more spontaneous, and rarely planned. While planned collaboration is easily achieved no matter where teams are located, getting colleagues to work together on the fly presents a challenge when spread across locations.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">For senior managers and middle managers, collaborating with colleagues ranks highest when asked what they appreciate most about going to the office.\u00a0Socializing with friends and colleagues is not a top-three motivation for\u00a0senior managers. But it is the second-most important factor for middle managers.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Finding value in the boundaries between work and home<\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Despite this area being slightly lower in the ranking than the <a href=\"https:\/\/eptura.com\/discover-more\/blog\/freedom-vs-connection\/\">human connection<\/a> and collaborating trends, it did come in right below them. Leaders need to acknowledge how some employees and managers have a need for more separation of personal and professional time and physical space. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Not everyone wants to be home seven days a week.
